Source: Ottawa Sun

If you’ve come down with the swine flu in recent weeks and you’re thinking about getting some life insurance, you might have to wait a while.

Some insurance companies are reluctant to provide policies to anyone who’s wheezing or coughing from what could be the H1N1 flu virus, at least not at standard rates and not while you’re still sick.

Will Life Insurance Companies Payout In A Pig Flu Pandemic?

If there is a pig flu pandemic, and many people lose their lives, will life insurance companies pay out the claims for death arising out of the pig flu?

It depends on the exclusions listed within the life insurance contract, so each policy may be different.

Unless a life insurance policy specifically states that it is not included than no one will have any problem making a claim and getting paid.

Suicide is one example of insurance companies denying benefits and it is written right on any policy. But here are even payouts for this after owning the policy for 1 or 20 years, depending on the state you live in.

Presently pig flu pandemic is not an exclusion under the standard life policy, and so it would be paid.

However, it is always best to review your life insurance policy and all exclusions which may apply to your coverage.
