Cancer and Life Insurance

Is cancer covered by life insurance?

The answer depends on your life insurance and the exclusions listed within your policy.

If your life insurance policy does not exclude cancer, then it may be covered.

Also, when you applied for life insurance, they may have asked you on the application if you have ever had cancer, have cancer, or are being treated for any health problem.

If your cancer resulting in death was related to any health issue you did not answer honestly to on your life insurance application, then the claim may be denied based on material misrepresentation.

However, if you developed cancer after purchasing your life insurance policy and were unaware of the cancer when you applied for coverage, it may be covered.

It may be a good idea to ask the life insurance company and your agent for a written explanation of how cancer may be covered by your policy before you purchase your life insurance.
